CSH and Research COmputing are two different entities at RIT.  Two different budgets, sets of responsibilites etc.

As far as I know research computing must run 24/7/365.  Dunno that CSH has to.

My guess would be that the ideal collaboration would be that the servers be housed physically with research computing and that Research computing offer unpaid coops to CSH house members to run the SL servers and perform other duties as needed within research computing.

I don't know wat the status of hosting approval is for Research Computing to Host from ITS.  It's not clear to me that CSH wouldn't have to go through the same approval process anyway.

I suggest that some synchronous conversations between Bernie, Paul and Charles occur, ideally via phone, so that what can and can't be done and what roadblocks or hurdles there may be get dealit with, and the concept of Co-Ops between research computing and CSH be discussed.

Second a phone call between Bernie and CSH should follow to determine what capacity and support they can provide and what they have to get approval from ITS for be discussed.

Once Bernie has the information and a better understanding of the lay of the land with both orgs within RIT he can have a path to move forward.
