I'm puzzled as to why you would want an XO laptop to host docker
applications; thus going slower and having less memory.

Asking for Docker to be surrounded by Sugar doesn't make any sense.

There, they were talking about Sugar as a docker application, which is
inside out compared to what you said above.

Do you understand what that gets you?  It means, if you have a number
of Raspberry Pi, you can write applications on one of them and deploy
the applications quickly to the others; at the expense of some
unavoidable overhead.

Usually, docker applications are in a secure insolation container;
they don't have any communication with other applications nearby in
other containers.

This goes against the idea of a personal computer; where all resources
are shared; files, journal, network, hardware.

What is it you are really looking for?  Remote control of a group of
XO laptops?  Try Puppet or distributed shell:
