Wauw.
Technically this sound very heavy on the hardware, but as an idea it
sounds awesome.
Do you know about Gromit, which does annotation locally?

Would be cool if the presenter (i.e. the teacher) could select an
annotation to redistribute, so that when a pupil asks a question and
points out the details of something in the screen, then (if the
presenter chooses) the whole class can see same pointing out.
(that part is probably lightweight, compared to the main streams).
Even if too heavy for XOs to handle, it might still make sense with
design requiring more CPU power if only at the presenter side: Having a
single more powerful machine per classroom would not be for every
school, but is still far less costly than digital whiteboards and IMO
far more useful (i.e. the pupils instantly has an independent copy to
take home and replay).
