Static+wiki website integration problems to be fixed before Monday - urgent

Following up on Friday's Marketing meeting
(http://meeting.sugarlabs.org/sugar-meeting.log.20090313_1205.html)
and my mail just prior
(http://lists.sugarlabs.org/archive/marketing/2009-March/000507.html
which Bernie responded to moments later), here is what we need to do
to assure comprehensible navigation for Monday's anticipated traffic
surge and to avoid search engine result weirdness as journalists link
to us and visitors bookmark us.
I have tried to list the most critical items to be fixed before the
surge, but I think lots more work needs to be done after the launch to
streamline navigation (I volunteer, still learning how to use a wiki).
In particular, the menu bar at the top should be homogenized on the
static and the wiki parts of the site; remember that new visitors will
naturally assume that they are on one Sugar Labs website with
different sections.
Of course I am open to discussion, but we only have hours left until
the surge and visitors will bookmark what they find; as some of these
changes may have propagation delays it is important we iron out the
wrinkles as soon as possible. Thanks.
* The new homepage (sometimes called the "static site") should be
http://www.sugarlabs.org. It should *not* be http://sugarlabs.org.
http requests to that address should land on http://www.sugarlabs.org
instead so visitors bookmark that address and not the shorter one.
* the old homepage (http://sugarlabs.org/go/Main_Page) should now be
called the wiki homepage, to communicate its role as the main page of
the "workspace" part of the site. So it needs to have its title
changed from "Sugar Labs/Welcome to Sugar Labs" to "Welcome to the
Sugar Labs wiki". We had also agreed that its URL (and indeed all
those of the wiki part) would become http://wiki.sugarlabs.org, but I
don't know where we are with that, I still only see
http://sugarlabs/go/... (except in Google search results which
started showing that URL yesterday). The goal is to communicate to the
first-time user that she is clearly in the wiki part of the site and
*not* the homepage, so she will hopefully seek to navigate to the
homepage.
* So in that connection a link to the homepage labeled "home" has been
added to the leftmost position of the top menu bar in the wiki part of
the site - thanks Bernie. This is good since it is identical
nomenclature with the "static" part of the site, and links as it
should to http://www.sugarlabs.org.
* However, the wiki section stacked logo needs to link to the same
address: http://www.sugarlabs.org, and not http://sugarlabs.org.
* On http://sugarlabs.org/go/Main_Page, there is a link called Home in
the green menu bar, it links to http://sugarlabs.org/go/Sugar_Labs. It
should link to the homepage instead (http://www.sugarlabs.org). The
current link remains accessible in the lefthand section list under
Community/Sugar Labs.
* Google returns the following text for the http://wiki.sugarlabs.org
address: "11 Mar 2009 ... Spin-off of the "Sugar" desktop environment
to another project." This should read instead: "www.sugarlabs.org is
the homepage of the Sugar Labs nonprofit, maker of the Sugar Learning
Platform for children." Note that we can update with text descriptive
of the wiki after the launch, when the homepage will be properly
indexed.
* Similarly, Google returns the following text for the
sugarlabs.org/go/Sugar_Labs address: "11 Dec 2008 ... The mission of
Sugar Labs is to produce, distribute, and support the use of the Sugar
learning platform; it is a support base and gathering .." This should
read instead: "www.sugarlabs.org is the homepage of the Sugar Labs
nonprofit, maker of the Sugar Learning Platform for children."
* We are planning a new Press page in the static part of the site for
Monday. Note that there will be some overlap with
http://sugarlabs.org/go/Sugar_Labs/Current_Events, for example press
releases. Not a big problem, but I will edit parts of that page as
soon as the new Press page is up to avoid confusion (the direct link
is still offered by Google under http://wiki.sugarlabs.org)
