The recent thread really was mostly explaining status quo and insisting 
on clearing out misconceptions. I believe that there was no strong[1] 
disagreement on how to handle things, after all.

(I admit above is a bold statement - please do complain if you disagree)

Ubuntu already forked several weeks ago (if not more, and the fork is 
expected to only be temporary. I believe we all look forward to that!

Some of it does, yes. I however consider some of it relevant only for 
the Alioth team (which still consist of both Debian and Ubuntu people 
even if its packaging is currently used mostly by Debian).

[1] Luke is enthusiastic and frustrated (as I am too) that his attempts 
at cracking my mysterious routines haven't carried fruit yet. But he is 
also relatively new, so I dare say that his arguments did not carry much 
weight.
