"[the real problem is] of organization and someone-to-organize."

How many passes through the wiki have already been made? Yes the wiki is
appropriate for some content, but a content management has pre-configured
"widgets" such as blogs, news pages, contact pages as well as wikis, and it
is relatively easy with one of the many good CMS systems available to
provide instances of these types of content organized under a main page.

As to design, it isn't the theming of the wiki that is at fault, it is that
content is shoved into the wiki paradigm that better belongs in a different
form. Someone could pay attention to an overall structure, and then content
would be easily added in the right portion of the site. Wiki content is
great for stuff that basically has a very flat structure with the occasional
"see also".

The reactions to my post remind me of the story of the lumberjacks who
rotated the cooking duties according to a simple algorithm. Once someone
was the cook, they continued to do this until someone complained about the
food...that person then became the cook.

Joe was tired of cooking, and prepared something that he was sure would
generate complaints. At the dinner table, strange looks were to be seen on
each face when a first bite was taken. Finally one of the lumberjacks
asked with a carefully neutral expression, "What is this, exactly, Joe?"
Joe answered, "Moose turd pie". Everyone at the table responded in unison,
"Delicious".
