Here's why I think we should do it:
Sugar has grown within the wider scope of OLPC, and therefore never
had its own individual home and identity. People had to dig into
the OLPC wiki to find information about Sugar. Now that Sugar is
being ported around, this association is starting to look less
natural.
It would become cumbersome once (and if) other hardware vendors
begin to work on Sugar too. Before we can even talk with them, we
need to have its own web site that does not look like it's obviously
hosted by their competitors.
The problem you mention is real. Rather than *copy* the Sugar
pages, I think we should *move* them... and keep the links working
across the two wikis. I'm not very familiar with Mediawiki, but I
asked around and it seems InterWiki is supported and the change
could be scripted. SJ might help us here.
I think OLPC might still sees the Sugar spin-off as something disruptive
or malicious. Well, while many people on this list may still shocked by
the new "roadmap", I think nobody here intends to harm olpc.
Quite the contrary...
