Thanks.  That's what I do.  I use schroot on Ubuntu 18.04.

apt install schroot

cat <<EOF > /etc/schroot/chroot.d/buster-amd64
[buster-amd64]
directory=/machines/buster-amd64
type=directory
personality=linux
groups=users,admin
aliases=buster
EOF

cd /machines
debootstrap buster buster-amd64

cd /sources/sugar-live-build
schroot -c buster
