Excerpts from Walter Bender's message of 2012-01-17 12:10:18 +0100:

Can you describe the use case in detail? Maybe we can come up with an
alternative intermediate solution that doesn't break with a versioned
data store.

It may even go a good way towards laying the foundations for the Action
View. As discussed with Gary at Sugar Camp Paris 2011, we don't store
enough information yet to implement this view.

Actions and events like creating, resuming or closing/suspending an
activity instance, receiving a file from a buddy, getting invited to a
shared activity or being presented with the disk-full alert would be
recorded in the data store as metadata-only entries with a "type"
property. Lack of a type property means the entry is a "traditional"
object entry, rather than an action or event. Objects can be referenced
from actions/events using their object_id (uid resp. tree_id+version_id).

Unlike objects, the actions and events entries are small and can be
retained for a long time.

To a large degree that will depend on others (the changes need to get
reviewed and included), but I will push for it during the Sugar 0.98
time line. Fortunately the UI changes are small, the major lifting is in
parts that should be unaffected by the GTK3 work.
