Just wanted to post agreement here with keeping the original button design for <= 0.84, and moving the buttons up to the toolbar for Sugar version that support the new toolbar designs.

I agree they are non-standard (but that was partly due to the icons/colour used), but the main issue with them I seem to remember was code that didn't work well at non XO screen resolutions, often braking the layout and making the buttons un-usable.
