Seems like Walters instructions are a bit outdated. :)

I'm not sure whether it was just your MUA wrapping the line, but the 
last two lines should be a single one. You can skip the path for sugar, 
BTW.

That sounds rather strange. How exactly are you starting sugar now? Does 
running "./sugar-jhbuild run sugar-emulator" work inside your regular 
desktop?
