Caroline, Would you be willing/able to write a first-person piece on the
endeavor? Since you're pretty much the local hook, I think that would be the
best way to approach it. Please let me know.

 Dear Mr. Schuler,

I am a Winchester resident (49 Thornberry Road) and I am involved in
an education project for elementary school aged children with the nonprofit
Sugar Labs
foundation. Sugar Labs (http://www.sugarlabs.org) provides the free
open source software environment used in the One Laptop per Child
computer, designed in the Boston area and over a million of which have
been distributed to kids in developing countries. Sugar Labs has
created a version of the OLPC software called Sugar on a Stick
(http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Sugar_on_a_Stick) which can run any PC
(and many Macs too) from an ordinary thumbdrive.

Sugar Labs and students from Harvard Graduate School of Education and Boston
University are running a
pilot at a Boston Public School in Allston and we need donations of used
computers and sponsors for USB sticks. Any publicity would help our project
enormously and we were
hoping we could interest you in publishing an article about what's
happening at the school - the teachers and learners are very excited!

A recent BU journalism graduate wrote a piece on us and we have not
yet placed it, perhaps it could be a starting point?

Thank you,

Caroline Meeks

Details on the computer donations: Email Caroline Meeks
cmeeks at sugarlabs.org to arrange pickup. We are looking for Pentium 4 or
better computers. We can only accept monitors less then 19" in size.
