ETC Press is excited to announce the release of “Well Played 3.0: Video
Games, Value and Meaning” by Drew Davidson et al.

Following on Well Played 1.0 and 2.0, this book is full of in-depth close
readings of video games that parse out the various meanings to be found in
the experience of playing a game. Contributors analyze sequences in a game
in detail in order to illustrate and interpret how the various components of
a game can come together to create fulfilling a playing experience unique to
this medium. Contributors again look at video games, some that were covered
in Well Played 1.0 and 2.0 as well as new ones, in order to provide a
variety of perspectives on more great games.

The Well Played Journal is a forum for in-depth close readings of video
games that parse out the various meanings to be found in the experience of
playing a game. It is a reviewed journal open to submissions that will be
released on a regular basis with high-quality essays. Contributors are
encouraged to analyze sequences in a game in detail in order to illustrate
and interpret how the various components of a game can come together to
create a fulfilling playing experience unique to this medium. Through
contributors, the journal will provide a variety of perspectives on the
value of games.
Event Host *[image: DrewDavidson.jpg]Drew Davidson* writes:
I'm a professor, producer and player of interactive media. Primarily, I am
interested in stories across texts, comics, games and other media as well as
conceptual interactive design, integrated narrative and interwoven media,
collaborative design and development, applied media and game logics. My
interdisciplinary theoretical interests focus on the performance of
narratives between multiple media. I look to illustrate how we interact with
our stories. I am intrigued by the way a medium can shape the creation and
the reception of meaning and how a range of media can be utilized in order
to communicate ideas. I explore how the juxtaposition of various media can
be made into an additive methodology that allows for continual
(re)presentation and critical analysis. I would like to see more
collaborative, dialogic and interactive work between scholars that reflects
the interdependence of authors, readers, texts and other media, in
establishing value and meaning. It is important to me to discover the
possible and myriad applications of interactive media that would compliment
and enhance traditional media, in order to develop pedagogies that inspire
newly viable learning, teaching and communication.
I bring a diverse and deep educational perspective to my professional
endeavors. I am continually looking for new opportunities and challenges in
helping to design and develop integrated and engaging high tech, rich media
experiences for education and entertainment. I believe my experience,
expertise and enthusiasm makes me invaluable in doing such work. I focus on
how to integrate creative content, applied theory and media technology to
create engaging and relevant experiences for people.

Cheers,
