 Well, looking at the code there isn't a "check for updates and then
 notify" scheme.. what it actually does is to trigger an special alert
 regularly to "invite" the users to check for possible updates.

 That code is still present, all we need to do is to trigger it regularly
 :). I will send a patch to dextrose-platform package so we can trigger it
 monthly.
