I was just reusing the existing namingalert functionality, but going
directly to the Journal would probably be better. Is there an obvious
example of the existing DBus interface?

It could, and I have an old mock-up of exactly that, but it means that
we need to add a new button to the toolbar, which is a major
intervention. This way, nothing need change from the Activity POV.
