[Systems] #Action Required: Election's 2017-2019 Stage IV Decision on Tool/Platform/server to be used [WAS:Re: Re[2]: Sugar Labs Oversight Board Election Candidates 2017-2019 - Stage III Closed]

I do not think that elections are a good place to "try new things", sorry,
especially with the date so soon in the future.

I'm a bit disinclined to use some tool that isn't explicitly designed for
elections, is heavy (requires registration), and has a paid plan*. I also
can't find examples of other open-source projects using it, which may
create a lack of trust in the veracity of it. I also would want to do
research into how private information is handled; are there mechanisms by
which the secret ballot could be later exposed by an organisation
administrator?

CIVS is used by a number of community organisations (Ubuntu uses it for all
of its elections), and is generally accepted as a "trusted third party" in
the open-source system. It's also extremely lightweight and provides a
mechanism for individuals to verify the accuracy of the vote. It's simple,
hard to screw up, and as a voter, I have no reason to doubt the tool's
impartiality.

*: While I appreciate that the software is open source, and (based on some
basic research) appears to be operated by a co-op, I can't find any
discussion of the group or its track record.
