Mea culpa.
I report in detail involved me removing /dev including /dev/mapper which
came back with dmsetup mknodes . After restoring most of /dev with
restarting udevd and MAKEDEV, /dev/pts was still giving issues - after
reading docs saying udev would restore on reboot, consulted with scg who
doublechecked on me,
rebooting /FREEDOM /with fingers crossed and firm determination, waiting
for interminable secods, until Freedom was restored. vm's didn't seem
affected (as virtsh list reported only after /dev/{u}random
The sin was attempting to remove (-rf) a chroot in/mnt and forgetting to
unmount a/dev binded to /mnt/dev.
Lesson learned, thank you infrastructure team, scary and kind of fun.
