Excerpts from root's message of Mon Dec 13 10:51:01 +0100 2010:

> DenyHosts could not obtain lock (pid: 9499)
> [Errno 17] File exists: '/var/run/denyhosts.pid'

Stale lockfile removed. Why can't DenyHosts detect that the process
with pid 9499 isn't running anymore and just delete the file? :-/
