Using a version support enabled data store will naturally provide this information and in the meantime there are less intrusive ways [2,3] to achieve the same result. If we merge it now, the Journal entry metadata will become inconsistent with the information provided by a version support enabled data store once that gets rolled out as there may be multiple branches of the same entry.
