Dear Mentors,
I hope this message finds you well. I’m Yedian Cheng, an aspiring
contributor to Sugar Labs, and I’m excited to share that I’ve submitted my
GSoC 2025 proposal titled *“*Refactor the chatbot in the Speak Activity to
use gen-AI*”*.
To prepare for this project, I have set up a full Sugar development
environment in a Fedora-based virtual machine and successfully ran and
modified the Speak Activity. I also submitted my first pull request
<https://github.com/sugarlabs/speak/pull/38> to Sugar Labs, which adds a
mock get_llm_response() function to simulate LLM-style chatbot replies.
This lays the foundation for future integration of large language models
and persona-based interactions. I’ve tested the activity locally and
recorded a short demo video to showcase the changes.
I would be grateful if you could take a moment to review my proposal and
share any suggestions to help me refine it further. I look forward to
continuing my contribution and learning through this opportunity.
Thank you for your time and support!
Warm regards,
Yedian Cheng
