Yes, there is a way, but this is not part of Sugar.  It is part of a program in a class of programs called a greeter.

gdm3 offers a choice of Sugar or GNOME if both are installed.

lightdm also offers a similar choice.

nodm can be configured for one choice only.

You can find the documentation for this in the greeter program packages.

Some greeters allow simultaneous sessions, so you can switch between Sugar and something else.
