If we want to go totally custom, zeromq is really fantastic and I used it
to add real time collab to FontForge by appropriating the undo system.

However I think matrix.org is probably a good bet. It looks like it
provides enough well maintained libraries that Sugar Desktop <--> Sugarizer
collaboration could even be possible... :)
