Yes Awajún is amont the three most spoken amazonian languages in Perú.
It was prioritized by the Ministry of Education in a project done in
consultation with us, documented here:

The project resulted in updated local operating system images with
updated translations for Aymara, Quechua and Awajún.

You'd be wrong. Going thru pootle and upstream glibc is not required to
use translations, only a person willing to dive into olpc-osbuilder.
However it is extra effort that was not completed.

The translators hired by the Ministry of Education were surprised and
distressed when they started noticing Edgar was /overwriting /the
updated translations they were doing. We had no knowledge Sugar Labs had
hired Edgar. There was a very public thread in June about this. People
from the Ministry were in cc as well as translators for all three
languages. The effect was panic of using pootle, a lot of confusion and
emails back and forth, and finally me getting a single drop of thousands
of strings in spreadsheets that I had to integrate in a rush into the OS
image that can be downloaded from the above page.

Scrapping the po files from the OS image is the next step and publishing
them into pootle. Submitting the locale to upstream glibc would pave the
way for this work to be sustained in the future by the community and not
lost at the Ministry of Education. (I.e. generic support for Awajun in
GNU/Linux etc).
