Hi,

This is not a simple issue. I am not sure if there are legal 
ramifications if you install these codecs one laptop at a time or
if you incorporate it in a build and distribute it. I also really
have limited time. Some of those pages look like they need a lot of TLC.

If you wish, I could document the process I use (as in this thread).

Essentially the process is to install the ugly and ffmpeg (now libav) 
rpms on a Fedora system and then copy the necessary libraries (libmad, 
libfaad and libav).

The issue is not a desire to retrofit, but a necessity. I am traveling 
and do not have a Fedora system connected to the Internet. When I get 
home in October, I'll follow the yum downloader procedure and build a 
local repository using the gstreamer 1.0 rpms. I tried to install the 
ugly rpm and found a huge list of dependencies - mostly to do with parts 
of the package not needed for mp3.
