The only need I see, is not stating new versions as <=0.94.

I guess people who support gtk3 branch.

Since there is 0.88 in the field, it think it will be better to reserve
some major numbers for possible bugfixes for current code and start
using versioning scheme what people, who take care about gtk3 releases,
prefer.
