FWIW (which isn't much) I think "expiry" is the normal British English usage, and "expiration" sounds odd.
The British English form is still pretty common in other dialects, particularly where the British influence continued past (say) 1776 or thereabouts...
Which is more common I could not say. I imagine both forms are understood...
