This is a *very welcome* addition/change.

One thing that might need consideration is the "select all" feature.
It may lead to adversely deleting your entire journal.
Particularly considering the target users.

Given that backup/restore activities can take care of the said functions,its main 
functionality is to easily copy/delete a category of entries or indeed delete your entire journal.
It can be useful at times, but potential harm should be considered against the cost of extra clicks
