The alias is for the developers to use.  It is stored in a file called
/etc/fedora-release.  We need to be precise here:

It is.  I'm not sure what your issue except that there's more than one
number involved.  But there is more than one thing involved.  Having
one version number per versioned thing is a feature, not a bug.  There
is nothing we should do about this.

Non-initiates won't be seeing it, unless there's a bug.  So they won't
be making any assumptions, no.  If they are please let us know.

Developers _may_ see this, and I'd like them not to be confused.  So
far developers have understood the simple explanation.

Constructive discussion about how to fix things should suffice.  I
have suggested some choices:
