A definite improvement. It builds 41 modules with no problem. Then
when I run it, I get to the X startup screen and the XO cursor, and no
further.

but
o There is no sugar-xo.gtkrc, just sugar-72.gtkrc and sugar-100.gtkrc.
Which one do I use?

Aha! The sugar script defaults to scaling 100, calling
sugar-100.gtkrc. I'll try that. So, maybe

Hm. That's peculiar.

root window unavailible (maybe another wm is running?)
