It is not sugar-jhbuild specifically. It is the concept of running
large pieces of unknown code.
If a lot of people allready runs exact same code, the risk of it
exploding in my face is smaller.
sugar-jhbuild is just the top of the iceberg: it pulls a lot of external
sources and invokes their commands.
