Not sure what you mean here, Simon, but if relevant then here is the 
state of CSound packaging for Debian:

Debian "Etch" (current stable release): 4.23f13
Debian "Lenny" (next official release): 5.08.0
Debian "Sid" (eternal unstable branch): 5.08.2

We (Felipe Sateler and I) are currently finalizing 5.10.1 for Sid.

Packaging for Lenny and Sid includes libraries and Python bindings 
needed for use with Sugar.

So all in all, I'd say that CSound for Debian is taken care of - but 
moves only slowly, so if you are interested in CSound packaging for 
Debian and Debian-based distros, you are most welcome to join our little 
CSound team :-)
