[sugar] Missing web browser in new build

Over the weekend I got Sugar running under Ubuntu on my PowerPC (Mac
PowerBook G4), but have run into several issues that I'm hoping to find
some leads on. I tried searching the olpc tickets, but didn't find
anything. I've put each one in it's own thread. Let me know if there's
somewhere else I should be posting this type of stuff.
#1: My biggest concern out of the box is the web browser is missing. The
icon is there, but when I click I don't get a browser. When I tried the
vanilla './sugar-jhbuild' it gave me a dependency warning about
xul<something> 1.8/1.9, but when I did './sugar-jhbuild build-base' it
only got stuck on ALSA Midi support for Squeak and consequently on EToys.
I'm not that worried about EToys, but not having the browser is major for
me. The News Reader is failing in the same way as the web browser, but
that's less of a concern for me personally. I'm guessing this has
something to do with the 'Network manager service not found.' message, but
have no idea how to fix it.
The output in the log is:
INFO - Hardware manager service not found.
INFO - Network manager service not found.
