Couple options that I know of.

1. The dev machines should still have the bits you can solder on a VGA
connection (I believe, correct me dev guys if I am wrong), so if you want to
pop the back of your machine off and do a bit of soldering, you can make an
external monitor plug-in.
2. Another option, which costs a bit of money, is to use one of those
wireless projectors of some sort.
3. X forwarding (NX or VNC, etc) does seem to be the simplest solution. :-/
