I have only had one device fail. This is out of many hundreds of installs and formats . I use mainly lexar firefly and toshiba USB's (2-16 GB.'s. ). My preference for USB's when using Anaconda is to use / ext4 with no swap. So even though this may be true theoretically, In reality this seems a moot point. Besides, If there is a failure, USB's are cheap and disposable.) My personal experiences....
