Dear Sugar on a Stick Team,
I am Ryan Cunningham, a user of Sugar on a Stick who has autism, seizure disorder, and a prior traumatic brain injury. After running tests several months ago, I noticed that Sugar on a Stick did not (then) support black-and-white or grayscale monitors.
I recognize that black-and-white and grayscale monitors as a concept are outdated, given the rapid pace of technological advancement in the field of computer science, but in the name of support of all possible desktop and laptop computer monitor configurations (a few cases being related to backwards compatibility), I suggest that the Sugar Learning Platform implement support for these monitors by detecting the presence of one such monitor on startup, and, if Sugar is projecting itself onto that monitor--
(1) coloring all toolbar and Frame icons (except for those of non-Sugar applications) black with a white border;
(2) coloring all other Sugar icons white with a black border;
(3) (in the "Click to change color" intro panel and the "About Me" pane in "My Settings") showing the names (red, orange, etc.) of the colors of the XO logo's fill and border below the logo itself (disabling that section might not work in certain multi-monitor setups); and
(4) on black-and-white monitors only--
(A) disabling all hinting and anti-aliasing of all fonts;
(B) coloring the Frame 100% black with a white border, all Sugar application toolbars 100% black with no border, and all text boxes created by Sugar 100% white with a black border; and
(C) (within the Frame and all Sugar application toolbars) inverting items being hovered over or selected (with the mouse) so that the background is white and the foreground is black.
These are only ideas; you may change the final implementation of this proposal as you wish. You should also inform Sugar Activity developers about this proposal so they may make appropriate changes to their Activities.
Sincerely,
Ryan Cunningham
