[SoaS] Students use of comptuters at home

I am starting work with the Parent Coordinator at GPA to have the students
use Sugar at home. I discussed the plan with her and I think it will be
easier to explain if there is a flow chart.

Any comments or suggestions on it?

One of the goals of the GPA project is to get a feeling for what percentages
are at each decision box.

Based on a very small survey I expect "Has a computer at home" to be 75%
yes.

My WAG based on our summer experiences is "Student can boot with CD and
USB" to be about 50% if we work with them on it.

So assuming we have 45 4th Graders I am expecting.

10 - 12 students need computers.
10 - 20 students can get it to work on their existing computers with some
coaching.

12 - 25 students will need additional help, either an expert to work on
their computer or a computer provided to them.

I'm listing these guesses not because I think they are accurate but to help
me when I compare what actually happens to my current predictions.

BTW, even if we end up needing home visits for a significant percentage of
the students this does not mean SoaS is not feasible. Home visits are
gaining popularity and research is showing they are helpful. Here is an
article on it from a recent Boston Globe.

thanks,
Caroline
