I don't know exactly what livecd-tools are creating, but AIUI, SoaS
achieves the same result already - we just aren't distributing it yet.

From README.txt:

 cat soas??xo.4gremovable.tar.lzma | lzma -dc - | tar xf - -O > /dev/sdX
