Its wonderful news that the high school and college kids in India will now have an affordable device.

Trust me...it's great news but there is lots of room for Sugar.
Even OLPCs XOs for the primary schools.. and the numbers are staggering.

People forget how rugged the XO is...
After 3 years in mud and rain and heat and the handling by little kids in the village..
almost all the machines are still working.

Not to forget Mary Lou Jepsens screen that has no peer for all the children in India who study outdoors under trees and in some cases on grave stones.

Unfortunately the spokesperson who represent OLPC in India, put out many incorrect reports in the press and the wikis about large orders by state Governments ....And continues to put out negative press about the Indian Govt officials esp targeting the HRD Minister...He may well be on this list...but I am beyond caring.
All the digs about MITs OLPC ...they do not comment on Sugar...that the newspapers publish are often hear say and recycled references by journalists who have never seen or held an XO...Let alone know what Sugar is.

Attacking the local systems and people doesn't help...we need to be collaborative in the way we deal and work.

I no longer work for DBF of the Reliance Group ..the less said about that the better... where I organised the visit of Prof. Negroponte to India in 2008 and I have an insider view and experience of what happened and what is happening to OLPC and Sugar in India.

A small group of us are continuing against the tide in what Prof. Negroponte has referred to as "Boutique" projects!. We have seen that once children, parents teachers and even Govt officials work with see for themselves what the XO with SUGAR does for children and the community...there is no looking back or at another option...for primary school kids at least.

I hope we can stay the course and not lose heart.
With high school kids ready with the Akash tablet we should be able to feed right into that well with the XO and Sugar in our primary schools.

Regards
