It keeps getting more interesting... D'Amico also spoke about the
(two!) OLPC XO-4 models in the following video,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fa5pKmhCgd4 , whose (edited) caption
reads:

"Giulia D'Amico, OLPC Vice President of Business Development, unboxes
and talks about the all-new XO-4 [Touch] One Laptop Per Child laptop,
featuring the new Marvell Armada PXA2128 dual-core 1.2Ghz 40nm
processor, Marvell 8787 WiFi chip and the Neonode IR Touch touchscreen
technology. The OLPC XO-4 [Touch] now also features a HDMI output.
Currently still running Fedora Linux... [and]... Sugar the OLPC is
thinking to port... to Android... [by YE] 2013. Thus far, OLPC has
shipped over 2.8 Million Laptops to children in... [60 countries]...
worldwide. Australia is going to be the first country to deploy over
55 thousand OLPC XO-4 Touch... in the months to come... This video was
filmed at CES 2013..."

It was not clear from what D'Amico said if and how Sugar would be
ported with an XO-4 laptop move to Android. I hope people here at
Sugar Labs are in the loop and can tell us more about this soon!!! She
suggested that governments interested in large-scale projects may be
behind the move to Android, "for simplicity and the amount of content
that you can actually find online available."

D'Amico noted that the touchscreen is a $20ish OPTION on the XO-4,
which brings the price up to $206 per unit FOB China in lots of
10,000+.

The large new deployment in Australia suggests that maybe it would be
better to call the XO-4 laptop models SCHOOL units, rather than
DEVELOPING country units, as Oz could certainly afford to pay for much
more expensive machines.
