Project Objectives:<br>
This project aims
to investigate and
develop a software
application for the<br>
XO laptop
considering adaptable
and adaptive resources
in the user<br>
interface. Using
flexible user
interface, it is
expected that the
software<br>
addresses the
different users' needs
and preferences while
interacting with<br>
the XO laptop. The
differences among
users include
disabilities (e.g.<br>
deafness and
blindness), ages, and
interaction
experiences. Moreover,
the<br>
application will
focus on promoting
sustainable behavior
in communities.<br>
The sustainable
behavior would reach
the school community,
involving<br>
children, teachers,
as well as the
students’ family,
since it is expected<br>
that children will
also use XO laptops at
home along with their
family.<br>
<br>
We defined that the
software application
will be a game which
will have<br>
adaptable and
adaptive software
resources to reach the
different<br>
interaction
requirements and
reconcile economic,
social and ecological<br>
interests, which
are requirements for
sustainable computing
in communities<br>
[Mocigemba, 2006].
The same game should
be used by children
with and<br>
without
disabilities and also
by their family and
teachers, considering<br>
appropriated
concepts to their ages
and interaction
abilities. These<br>
requirements will
be elicited using a
Participatory Design
approach<br>
[Schüler and
Namioka, 1993] and
methods from
Organizational
Semiotics<br>
[Stamper et al.,
1988; Liu, 2000]. The
proponents have
experience in using<br>
these combined
approaches...<br>
