mailing lists (see http://www.abisource.com/developers/) so that we
can explain how to make a Marovo translation of AbiWord and Write.

Martin,

As you may know, we have long been pointing localizers at AbiWord and other upstream projects:

http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Translation_Team/Pootle_Projects#AbiWord

The reality is that there can be a certain inertia that makes it hard to move localizers from one system (Pootle) to another method of submitting (offline PO files and mailing list submission); nevermind the multiple processes needed to get the upstream fully localized. Another advantage is that Pootle offers excellent on-line QA tools (e.g. msgfmt checks) and other affordances (slow accumulation of strings is possible, collaboration workflow is enhanced, etc.).

I'd like to make a proposal for collaboration on L10n (one made to and accepted by other upstream and downstream projects like GNASH and Waveplace). We can host an "unofficial" set of PO files for AbiWord on our Pootle server. It probably makes sense to do so in this project:

http://translate.sugarlabs.org/projects/upstream_POT/

This would *not* replace AbiWord's established process (submitting to the abi-dev mailing list), it would serve to complement it. We would *not* attempt to establish the commit connection from Pootle used for locally hosted projects, that would remain a manual AbiWord process and AbiWord would remain in control of final commits and repo archiving; our Pootle server would merely be an optional collaboration tool.

We can establish any additional language projects needed and upload your existing 2.9.x and 2.8.x PO files.

What do you think? Feel free to repost this to abi-dev for comment and discussion with your community.
