Caryl,

You are fine.

The SHA1 checksum 514974a5fcbbbea02151d79a715741c2159d4b0a is for the zip file.
After unpacking the resulting img file has SHA1 checksum
6ac10d049cd8cf3876a74493830dca586487c585.
See copy from terminal output on my Mac below:
------------
HPM-AVANOVER-1-MBPRO:WebDownloads avanover$ /usr/bin/openssl sha1
2012-12-16-wheezy-raspbian.zip
SHA1(2012-12-16-wheezy-raspbian.zip)= 514974a5fcbbbea02151d79a715741c2159d4b0a
HPM-AVANOVER-1-MBPRO:WebDownloads avanover$ /usr/bin/openssl sha1
2012-12-16-wheezy-raspbian.img
SHA1(2012-12-16-wheezy-raspbian.img)= 6ac10d049cd8cf3876a74493830dca586487c585
------------
Go ahead and put the img file on your SD card!!
