For those of you who follow the Sugar Oversight Board (SLOB)
discussions [1], you know that we have been in an on-going dialog
about the structure of Local Labs [2]. After many months, it was
concluded [3] that the Local Lab construct, which entails activities
above and beyond "writing, improving and documenting FLOSS", fell
outside of the scope of our parent organization, the Software Freedom
Conservancy (SFC) [4].

We (SLOB members) have begun to explore an alternative structure for
Sugar Labs, which may well involve the creation of a new organization,
hence the subject of this message. Roughly, the idea would be to leave
the project code housed in the SFC, which is well suited to managing a
software project, while moving the ancillary operations involved with
supporting the code in the field to a new organization created
specifically for that purpose.

I am writing to solicit feedback on:

(1) In general, the idea of creating New Co.
(2) Thoughts on specific goals for New Co.
(3) Ideas about structures that would enable us to achieve these goals.

I imagine there are a wide range of opinions out there: please add
yours to this thread.

Para aquellos de ustedes que siguen a la Junta de Supervisión de Sugar
(SLOB) debates [1], ustedes saben que hemos estado en un cuadro de
diálogo en curso sobre la estructura de los laboratorios locales [2].
Después de muchos meses, se concluyó [3] que la construcción de
laboratorios locales, lo que implica actividades más allá de "software
libre a escribir, mejorar y documentar", quedaba fuera de la Software
Freedom Conservancy (SFC) [4].

Nosotros (los miembros de SLOB) han comenzado a explorar una
estructura alternativa de Sugar Labs, que bien puede implicar la
