Hi Again=2C

OK=2C Now I notice they have books for younger children =
as well=2C including Algebra I (which CA did not require or review).&nbsp=
=3B It looks pretty good on my Mac.&nbsp=3B It can be read without download=
ing=2C but requires Flash. There is a PDF version that can be downloaded an=
d used off line. That makes sense for the XO.&nbsp=3B Which Activity would =
be best to download to do this?&nbsp=3B It looks like Read might be best si=
nce it will read PDF files=2C but will it read multi-page documents like a =
book? Should I try something else? I could just experiment around=2C but th=
at would be re-inventing the wheel if someone knows the answer.

Than=

Hi All=2C

While we have been worrying about free textbooks on the in=
ternet for younger children=2C the 1000 pound gorilla in the high school te=
xt book "room=2C" California=2C&nbsp=3B has made it really start to happen =
for older students.&nbsp=3B Here is an excerpt from Chris Bigenho's blog th=
at has some interesting links (yes=2C we are related).

XOs as book r=
eaders are entirely appropriate for grades 9-12. Are they compatible with t=
hese books?... don't know yet. I haven't had time to try it out.

Car=

2 Foundation- (Open Source Publishing)

The CK-12 Foundation is a=
not-profit organization that is working to reduce the cost of text books t=
hrough the use of Open content and web collaboration. This is just one more=
step toward the new publishing model that textbook companies need to fear =
and fear it they do. <a href=3D"http://about.ck12.org/">http://about.ck12.o=

llow-up of the post above. This is the California Learning Resource Network=
where they had a Free digital textbook initiative with review and results.=
Here you can see the entire report or look at the summary findings. Notice=
how many open content books made the list in competition with the big publ=
ishers. Yes=2C publishers need to look at the future as written on these pa=
