Greetings to All!

This year, I am attending the conference as a volunteer and MICCA/NECC member (basically in the mornings, depending on my work schedule), but I will be sure to stop by your booth! So please let me know where you will be located and bring all of your toys! I am looking forward to meeting you.

As for FIRST, below are some specific events featuring local teams:

Robotics: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in the High School Classroom
[Informal Session: Poster]
Alan Epstein, Watertown Public Schools with Brandon Jones, Elzabad Kennedy and Kenneth Lesley
Tuesday, 6/30/2009, 10:00am–12:00pm WWCC East Registration Lobby, Table: 4

This event introduces the international FIRST Robotics Competition, a "sports event for the mind," which expands the STEM curriculum through hands-on, experiential education (featuring an FRC robot and the coach and students from McKinley Senior High School in Washington, DC).

Also, LEGO Education is hosting a media event in Boothe 2430 on Monday or Tuesday in which David Buddenbohn and his FTC from Maryland will represent FTC and showcase their TETRIX robot builds.

Take care,

Denise M. Lewis

Heads up locals!

I just received e-mail from the regional director of FIRST (For
Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology)
Robotics, and she tells me that Denise Lewis, the DC Assistant
Regional Director and DC Senior Mentor, will be at NECC.

Given the stuff we're talking about doing with HacDC
(http://hacdc.org/), Scratch boards, etc and the fact that the DC
Robotics folks did the Scratch Day in Takoma Park while we were doing
Scratch Day in Arlington, this seems like a good time to meet and show
off the 15 XO's we're bringing to the party. (I don't know what toys
she's bringing.)

For those of you unfamiliar with FIRST, it was founded by Dean Kamen,
the inventor of the Segway (among several other things),
"To transform our culture by creating a world where science and
technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming
science and technology heroes." according to the official web site.
