You certainly can contribute, here and elsewhere. What kinds of
software interest you? We can talk about math software such as
Geogebra or mathematical programming languages, or about educational
software more generally. People I work with usually use Python,
Smalltalk, or J, but there are other possibilities.

Also, tell us more about the course. Where are you attending it? Who
teaches it? What does it cover?
