My gut feeling is the same as Aleksey. A notification is likely too nagging, adding to the power management CP text seems like a good alternative. Another possible option to consider in addition to extra power CP text would be to have a count down in seconds for idle disconnect in the 3G device palette, that way it's easily spotted by the user if automatic power management is enabled by default and the user has not explored the CP.
