Have you tried datastore-fuse [1]?

Very nice to see this is a (finally?) a priority. I've spent a few days
lately on debugging some issues surrounding using recent Rainbow with
recent Sugar and have a pretty good idea of the next steps now. [2,3]

Can you give more details? Content from which activities do you want to
print? Where will the printer be hooked up? Do you need some kind of
access control?

Latest git master of Write can export as PDF now. IIRC Vamsi worked on
Moodle support for some kind of print queue. Alternatively, if the
printer is hooked up to the teachers XO, PDFs could be sent (via Send To
in the Journal) to the teacher and a simple activity would submit them
to a locally installed CUPS. The same would work if students can connect
directly (via USB) to the printer, though it requires the printer to be
set up on every laptop (AFAICT CUPS can auto-detect USB printers, but
does not auto-add them to the configuration).
