 It's not just the background cpanel code causing leaks, it is also the
 whole cpanel ui.

 Look at the test results for the frame cpanel (attached).  Opening and
 closing the frame cpanel using my mouse causes a 25kbyte/sec increase in
 memory usage.  The frame cpanel contains just Gtk+ ranges and labels - no
 fancy pixbuf loading.
