 I identified at least one of the sources of the pulsing icon at activity
 startup.

 In 566415f9 we introduced a special case to solve the Journal activity
 window startup case. In that case home_activity is None, but there are
 other case where that happen. The case is a race conditiion between the
 startup window is displayed and the activity main window is realized.

 Attached there are two logs, one, showing the rigt startup sequence, and
 another showing the startup sequence generating th pulsing icon.
